George's mushroom baby
is very very sad
as he looks up for the first time
at his proud mushroom dad

He gazes all around, perplexed
though the facts are plain to see,
he cannot accept or comprehend
just how he's come to be

A free-thinking fungus
a mushroom with a mind
with just enough in the way of brains
to ask the heavens "why?"

George tries to comfort him
and lifts him from his cot
he tells him that it's folly to wish
to be that which you're not

For happiness lies within, you see
but shrooms are so much more
and just like that old george explodes
into a billion tiny spores

Far from being distressed by this
George Jr's put at ease
For all his choices, thoughts and deeds
will one day join the breeze

He ceases crying, no more laments
his life, humble and and fleeting
and celebrates this chance to be
a shroom, alive and breathing!

Live for today and live for joy
as none is left behind
so he resolves to seek and cherish
all love and life there is to find
